Stranger Things has opened many doors for Brown in the entertainment industry, and she has become one of Netflix’s biggest stars. Brown’s first Netflix project outside Stranger Things was Enola Holmes, followed by its sequel and the fantasy movie Damsel.
Stranger Things is now preparing for its fifth and final season, and while fans wait for Netflix to give a release date for season 5, Brown will appear in another Netflix project. Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo and based on the graphic novel of the same name by Simon Stålenhag, The Electric State will take the audience to a futuristic world. In it, Michelle (Brown) is approached by a robot to look for her missing brother, and so they set out to find him together. The Electric State already has its cast, and it’s repeating one of Stranger Things’ best actor strategies.

Astin famously starred in Richard Donner’s 1985 adventure comedy The Goonies as Mikey, the leader of the title group of friends. One of Mikey’s closest friends was Data, an amateur gadgeteer and James Bond fan played by Ke Huy Quan.
Stranger Things has heavy and obvious references to the culture of the 1980s, and The Goonies is one of its clearest inspirations. Casting Astin in season 2 was fitting and a heartwarming way to pay homage to The Goonies’ influence, and it was Brown’s first time working with a Goonies actor. This is now continuing in The Electric State with Quan, and it’s to be seen what the dynamic between his and Brown’s characters will be like.
